Janice Trimpe studied sculpture
at Detroit ’s College for Creative Studies
(CCS) for three and a half years and in 1976
went on to set up a studio in downtown Detroit
where she sculpted portrait busts in the window.
Her work there attracted the attention of many
prominent people and in the next few years
Janice was asked to sculpt over 200 portrait
busts. Many of these were children, considered
by Janice to be her forte. Other assignments
included (former) Michigan Governor G. Mennen
Williams, (former) Detroit Police Commissioner
Raymond Leonard, Mikhail Baryshnikov, restaurateur
Chuck Muer, and newspaper columnist Susan Stark.
In the early 1980's, Janice’s sculpture
of boxer Joe Louis won first runner-up in a
nationwide search. More recently Janice
has sculpted Detroit businessman Manuel “Matty” Maroun
and Alfred Mann, Past CEO of MiniMed in Northridge,
California .
Janice will create a portrait either from
a live model, with three to four sittings,
or from photographs. The finished product can
be bronze or fired clay. Price is determined
by size, medium, and whether it is a bust or
a full body. |
