Sarah's Heirloom
(1-1/4 life-size)
The city of Sterling Heights, Michigan selected
Janice to do a sculpture to be placed in front of the
historic Upton House. Janice's design, a young child,
standing at the feet of her grandmother, is watching
in amazement while her grandmother is showing her how
to needlepoint. The grandmother is looking at her granddaughter
with love in her eyes. Janice's inspiration for this
piece came from watching her own mother and granddaughter
in this same pose. The figures are actually portraits
done from photos taken around 1850 showing the members
of the Upton family, the original landowners. |
